Are You Ready for Summer School?
Summer School 2012 – “EXPLORE More!!!”
Lawson R-XIV School District
The Schedule: EXPLORE! More!! 2012 will begin Session 1 on May 30 and run through June 19. Session 2 will begin June 20 and be in session through July 13. Students may attend from 8:30-3:30 daily. There will be no school on July 4-6 for a holiday break. There are morning and afternoon sessions. Students may attend AM, PM, or both. Some of the middle school sports activity classes are ten day classes. Students may join into the other courses after the activity classes are complete.
Summer School Locations: Students entering Grades K-8 in the Fall will attend classes at the Lawson Middle School. Enrollment forms are available on the school website or in the middle school and elementary offices. Due to roof repairs at Southwest Elementary, we will hold elementary classes at the middle school.
Lunch: The summer school program offers lunch each day for those who wish to purchase meals. The cost to students is: $1.55 (Elem) and $1.80 (Middle School), and milk $0.35. Elementary* students will use their current lunch accounts for summer school. Any money remaining in student accounts at the end of the school year will be available for summer school meals; account money remaining after summer school will be available for use at the beginning of school in August. Students may also bring a lunch from home. It will be important to sign up for lunch each morning. *Note: Middle School students will need to prepay or bring money daily. They will not have access to their lunch accounts.
Snacks: Students will have the opportunity to purchase snacks or drinks during the afternoon session of summer school. The cost will be $.75 per item. Students may also bring in snacks from home.
Latchkey: Latchkey will be available when summer school is in session. All students enrolled in Latchkey will automatically participate in the Summer School Program. Latchkey is available before summer school 6:00-8:30 a.m. and after summer school 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. It will be located at LMS for grades K-6.
Elementary: Students will attend interesting and exciting grade level classes in the morning (8:30-12:00) that will focus on the theme of EXPLORE More!! They will incorporate the core subjects with interesting themes as they learn and explore more. Lawson students currently receiving Title I reading services will have an opportunity of thirty minutes of daily small group instruction. In the afternoon students will rotate through enrichment classes.
Middle School: Students have several options in the AM sessions: Sports activity classes, block classes, and enrichment rotation classes. The afternoon will include block classes. Refer to the enrollment form for specific classes. Some courses have a limited class size. The course descriptions are available on the website or in the school offices.
High School: Classes for credit will be offered. These include: Driver’s Education, Journalism, Weight Lifting /Agility Program for Girls, and Weight Lifting/ Human Performance for Boys, and American Government. Dates and times vary per class. At this time the Drivers’ Education class is full. Contact the high school office for more information and to register for these classes.
Enrollment forms for students in K-8 have been sent home. If you did not receive a form, they are available on-line at http://lawsoncardinals.org and in the elementary and middle school offices.
